I live in a small mobile home community down a gravel road in rural Georgia. The hate literature defaming Catholics and the Nancy Schaefer for Senator signs hanging all over the place, piled up in the lobby waiting for their church wide campaign to commence their saturation of this entire area…that’s enough for me to dislike these people. Throw in the fact that every revival notice, church benefit, VBS, screaming at me from the window of our post office…my post office, and I think I have come to despise these people. Quietly and from a distance, but despising nonetheless…
I find myself wondering about the people there…what do they want? Turns out EVERYTHING, including a chunk of the land on which our home rests. Their potential purchase would actually close off the entrance to our neighborhood and eventually, would mean the removal of homes. How many? Which ones? Nobody knows just yet….
The irony of this situation will not be lost on my husband, whose elderly widow mother was forced to move her dinky little trailer back in the late 1980′s. See, she was sitting on this tiny piece of land owned by…you guessed it: THE CHURCH NEXT TO HER. She had no means to move, nowhere to go and her only child still living with her was 3 weeks shy of basic training. But she had to go, and go she did. I’m not sure how she did it, but one thing I am sure of and that is it wasn’t with the help of the church who booted her.
“They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.” Mark 12:40
“Look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
“Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need.” 1 Timothy 5:3
These are just the few examples from THEIR HOLY BOOK that I can recall referring to how widows are to be treated. Hypocrites.
